Details:

CARDINALES is a  piece in the style of a harness with eight figures made from gold-plated brass and fastened with black Italian leather straps.

100% handcrafted between Spain and Hong Kong.

Each piece takes an approximate of 20 hours of artisan labor.  All the harnesses are different and unique.

Story:

How does one define excellence?

Since the origins of philosophy we have theorized about its definition and practice. The Greek term we translate for 'virtue' is areté, and it means 'the excellence of a thing'. But many virtues must be mastered to approach excellence.

These virtues were personified from as early as the third century A.D. as young horsewomen fighting the vices. The triumph of good over evil.

Over time they were stripped of their warlike appearance and left behind the idea of young warriors so as to obtain a character of majesty and wisdom. This piece represents the four cardinal virtues: Fortitude, Prudence, Justice and Temperance.

CARDINALES is a jewel that embraces the torso to emphasize the concept of armour; a set of defensive pieces provided with straps and buckles used to secure and transport things necessary for a purpose. These necessary 'things' are in our case the four Virtues.

Fortitude, represented by columns. Columns destroyed and recomposed, columns with lion and lioness heads that protect the chest.

Prudence, in the mouth of the stomach, looks at herself in the mirror to observe herself in detail. Good decisions cannot be taken without a deep knowledge of oneself. Part of her is a second identity, an old man's face that looks back at the past, contributing with his wisdom and experience. A snake coils around his left arm, a symbol of observing cautiously before taking action.

Justice, the bones that hold us all together; regardless of gender, race or social status. She's found in the gut. She's reason and instinct, fighter and the protector of balance.

Temperance at the back, holds them all in place, so that they do not get distracted or fall down. It is represented by the bridle piece that is placed in the horses' mouths. Being in control of our impulses and feelings is as important as acknowledging them.

This piece is inspired by Laura Cano's polyptych 'Origen' (Madrid, Spain November 2023)  and the depictions of the Virtues by Pollaiuolo and Botticelli for the Sala dell'Audienza del Tribunale della Mercanzia in Florence.

CARDINALES is also the first piece of the 'LA ARETÈ' Collection of SANTAVANITAS for 2024.

DELIVERY AND RETURNS

Your SANTAVANITAS Jewellery will be dispatched within 1-2 working days. We ship all orders through registered, recorded delivery, and we are happy to help with any urgent delivery requests.

For pieces that are Made to Order (18kt solid gold and special sizes), please allow us 14-21 working days before shipping.

Whilst we do not accept returns, we are happy to exchange any item within 7 days of delivery. Please do contact us if you would like any information about a particular jewellery piece or further images.

ATTENTION: Due to safety and hygienic reasons, we are unable to accept exchanges on any earrings.

You will receive a confirmation email within the 24 hours of placing your order. If you do not receive it, contact us as soon as possible. 
Orders placed after 1:30pm CET will be shipped the following business day. 
Orders placed on Friday after 1:30pm CET, Saturday or Sunday will be shipped on Monday.
Note: Many shipping companies do not deliver on weekends or holidays.

SANTAVANITAS S.L. is not responsible for any delays or issues once the order has left our warehouse. Once the order is in transit, we will gladly work with the shipping company to assist with any issues.

Note: During promotional periods and holidays, please expect longer than normal delivery times as we do not ship orders on weekends and holidays (Spain  Bank Holiday). During this time, there may be delays, where SANTAVANITAS S.L. is not responsible.

Shipping Restrictions:
Please ensure that an accurate and complete shipping address is entered, as we are unable to ship orders to PO boxes.
SANTAVANITAS S.L. is not responsible if a currier’s Access Point closes temporarily for vacation, etc and delivery is delayed.

Address Revisions:
If you have placed your order with an incorrect address, please contact us as soon as possible here. We will make every attempt to process the address adjustment on our end, however once the order has been dispatched from our warehouse, we will be unable to change the address at this time.  SANTAVANITAS S.L. is not responsible for incorrect addresses.

International Taxes and Duties:
SANTAVANITAS S.L. is not responsible for any import charges, duties or taxes for international sales which may occur upon delivery.
Packages may be delayed due to customs or other external reasons for which SANTAVANITAS S.L. is not responsible.

Defective Items:
If you believe the item(s) that you have received are defective, please contact us here immediately. Once we have reviewed your claim, we will proceed with the exchange of the defected item for a new piece.

Our packaging - unique handcrafted table napkins

Rooted in purpose beyond aesthetics, our pieces are presented in handmade handkerchiefs, inspired by the old tradition of the trousseau and women creating their own table or bed cloth as newlyweds.

These handkerchiefs are meticulously crafted by Carmen at her studio in Jeréz- a small Andalusian atelier, owned by two sisters - a young female business we’re proud to support.

We honor the craftsmanship of Spanish women and sustainability. Their attention to detail makes each handkerchief unique, as they follow generations of traditional intricate lace designs.

In the old days, women saved their most valuable and beloved jewelry pieces inside these trousseau handkerchiefs or table napkin. Our interpretation of it attempts to offer an intimate space to treasure your pieces, but also dress your table. Sharing food is one of the warmest love languages in every culture, after all.
